Current Break Even Point (BEP) 2008

The current BEP for a person receiving SSI for earned income only is $1359.00. To compute the BEP for an SSI recipient who also has unearned income (SSDI/SSDAC), add the countable unearned income and the countable earned income. The person reaches the BEP when this amount is over the current FBR.

The 2007 BEP was $1,331.00.

Student Earned Income Exclusion 2008

For 2008, SSA allows an exclusion of earned income of up to $1,550.00 a month, not to exceed $6,2400.00 per calendar year.

For 2007, SSA allowed an exclusion of earned income of up to $1,510.00 a month, not to exceed $6,100.00 per calendar year.

This amount will increase each year based on the National Average Wage Index. During the TWP the services for self-employment are 80 hours a month. This was an increase as of 2001. Prior to January 1, 2001 the hours counted toward a TWP service month was 40 hours.
