The Missouri Independent Living Conference 2006

Surviving and Thriving in a Climate of Change

On June 14 & 15, 2006, RCEP7 hosted the Missouri Independent Living Conference at the Holiday Inn Executive Center in Columbia Missouri.

The theme of this year's conference was Surviving and Thriving in a Climate of Change. The opening and closing keynote speeches addressed how State and Federal budget issues are impacting policies and programs that promote the economic and personal independence of all individuals with disabilities. A positive and proactive approach to advocacy and creating opportunities in Missouri was the focus with a special emphasis on the importance of integrating community advocacy and grassroots involvement.  Breakout sessions addressed issues related to housing, services, voting, advocacy, history/philosophy, best practices, benefits, etc.... All of our speakers were Missourians working in some capacity to improve the lives of individuals with disabilities.
